What is billionaire investor, Warren Buffett up to? We check out some of the things he has done recently
As usual, things haven't been very exciting to talk about when meantioning Warren Buffett's purchases. He is not into purchasing internet or technology companies, but instead, he purchases, boring old companies that have predictible results. Recently, on Jan 1, 2001, Berkshire Hathaway aquired Benjamin Moore, a manufacturer of paints, stains, and industrial coatings. Like most of Buffett's picks, the company has a long history with roots back to 1883. And, on Dec 20, 2000, Berkshire Hathaway entered into a merger agreement with building supply company manufacturer, Johns Manville. The company like the most recent one has a long history and is over 142 years old. This leads to another interesting point. If we were to pick the average history of a company in years and compare Buffett's holdings to other successful investors, we would probably find that Buffett's companies are much older than most. March 27, 2000 What is the world's greatest investor up to today? Well, besides the upcoming annual meeting, he is most likely still researching companies, but is he buying anything? Well, according to news reports, Buffett hasn't purchased anything directly, but recently one of his companies, Wesco, purchased, CORT Furniture Rental Corporation, a company that rents out furniture. And also, back in Oct 99, Berkshire purchased another furniture company and the employees were rewarded by getting paid 50cents for every hour that they had ever worked! The annual meeting for Berkshire Hathaway which is coming up on April 29. The meetings are amazing! They usually last from 7am to 3:30 and are held in a stadium which holds over ten thousand people! Last year, approximately thirteen thousand people were at the meeting. The meeting is typically a question and answer session where Buffett and his partner, Charlie Munger entertain questions. The comments made by Buffett offer a greater claritly and vision for investing that any course or seminar ever offered. He understands investments extremely well, and shares his talent with the people. The auditoriums are packed with people of all types from children, reports to students. It is a great experience for anyone interested in investing and is definately worth the trip. In fact, many people at the meetings are from all over the U.S.! I spoke with a man that drove all the way from Michigan to Nebraska for the meeting. That will give you some impression of how devout Buffett followers are.
