The breakup of Microsoft is now stronger than ever. How will this effect Microsoft
The breakup of Microsoft is now stronger than ever. However, a breakup seems like it would do little to stop Microsoft using tactics that have resulted in the destuction of competitors. And, it is the destruction of competitors by using tactics that are possibly illegal and damaging to the economy. What difference is multiple mini-Microsofts going to make? So, you end up with a bunch of mini-Microsofts abusing competitors or acting together as one. If the companies are seperate, the financial reporting and accounting may be a little more difficult, but thanks to software and the internet, this shouldn't be a big deal. <p> A Microsoft that is broken up may even be good for Microsoft. The company may be more focused in the different areas and stronger as a result. Ok, maybe a breakup would do something if each seperate company could only use their own money. So, the Microsoft Intenet division couldn't receive cash flows or funds from other companies. However, that probably wouldn't keep Microsoft from having its internet division from making a deal with its Operating System division to integrate its browser into the OS and then having Microsoft OS division pay its internet divison for software. It seems that more important things could be done without having a breakup or resticting freedoms that every company should have. No matter how much people hate Microsoft, this is America and they should be allowed to compete fairly along with other companies. They should not be allowed to compete unfairly. Eliminating tactics such as selling software for free or at a loss, bundling products, and doing exclusive license aggreements with computer companies. Also allowing bulk discounts on software should probably not be allowed. This could also be a way of giving software away. These things would put Microsoft on par with other companies and allow for good competiton. |
